This week, Biden met with economist Larry Summers, who just said that an increase in the unemployment rate from 3% to 5% is necessary to combat inflation.

The current chairman of the Fed said last month it was his goal to get wages down (!), and that workers need to be “disciplined” by the labor market (!!).

As I said on Twitter:

This is an old and jaw-droppingly cruel tenet of certain economists. Back in 1994, I did this comic when the Fed was keeping the unemployment rate at what it called its "natural rate," 6%, in order to ward off inflation.
