Well, it’s happened again. The New York Times has pronounced this year’s Academy Award race for Best Picture to be “wide open.”
Yes, of course this is objectively a weird year for the Oscars.
I’m no Oscar buff, but I’ve found it amusing to document how The Times declares, year after year, that this year’s Best Picture race is “wide open,” while last year’s Best Picture race was obvious.
Every single year.
Follow the Twitter thread I wrote last year if you’re interested.
And my 2012 (!) blog post about the annual event. And the 2015 sequel, if you can stand it.
I mean, every year!

Speaking of the movie biz, this week’s Classic Tom the Dancing Bug (published on GoComics yesterday) is “News of the Times: Acting Not Art!” (from 1996).
(An extensive analysis of the comic, undermining its very point, was in this week’s Inner Hive mailing.)
—
And this week the GoComics Super-Fun-Pak Comix page has featured comics from this installment (from 2004).

My friend, the writer Greg Pak has suggested bystander intervention training for combating anti-Asian hate. Sounds like a great idea, if you can do it.
That’s it for this week. Thank you for reading, if in fact you did.
I’ll close with (1) a gratuitous close-up of Otis,
and (2) a reminder that during the March Inner Hive Drive, if you join the Inner Hive, $25.00 will be donated to a Food Bank to help feed hungry people (details at link).
If you have the means to, please do join the fun, and make me do some good.
Yours Indeed,
Rb
